McLaughlin Grows Urban Farm at Trinity Health Muskegon is a great place to learn about sustainable farming, practice healthy eating, and give back to your community. Our goal is to cultivate a volunteer group who become “experts” in our practices and can commit to volunteering a few times per month during the growing season. We welcome volunteers of all backgrounds, interests, and abilities; we are happy to offer accommodations when possible. All volunteers must be 15+ years old. A background check is required for individual volunteers over the age of 18.
Farming volunteers typically help with a variety of farm tasks including planting, weeding, trellising, spreading compost and mulch, land beautification, and more. This is a great volunteer position for someone who wants to expand their gardening/growing knowledge and get their hands dirty. Please note that these tasks are labor-intensive and require bending and heavy-lifting, and are done outside in all weather conditions.
Compassion Garden volunteers assist with our flower harvest and bouquets. This is a great role for people who love flowers and getting creative with bouquet making.
We welcome ongoing as well as one-time group volunteers. On-going volunteers are asked to select one to two shifts that they can attend regularly through the growing season. Please note that while needs may have dates and times specified on the site, we are happy to be flexible or accommodate scheduling needs when possible! We welcome large corporate groups on a case-by-case basis; please reach out via email to schedule opportunities.
