More detail:
Greetings Parade Participants... The Old Fashioned Days Memorial Day Parade is sponsored by the Fruitport Lions Club and will be held on... Memorial Day, Monday, May 27, 2019, at 2:00 pm. Parade line up is at 12:30 PM.
Fruitport Lions Club sponsors Old-Fashioned Days as a nearly week-long celebration preceding Memorial Day and is our largest annual fund raising and community participation effort. Proceeds of the week’s events fund sight conservation and many, many other community service programs and projects. Our parade is the grand finale to the week and we appreciate your participation.
But first, we shall never forget... The core reason for this and all Memorial Day celebration is to honor the memory of members of the United States armed forces who died in military service for their country.
With that, allow me to direct you to our website at http://fruitportlionsclub.com/ where you’ll find the online application, marshaling instructions, rules & regulations and a map of the parade route.
This year both Fruitport Township and the Village of Fruitport celebrate their 150th anniversary. So this year we wish to encourage all units to be appropriately decorated to honor Memorial Day and/or this special anniversary. But everyone’s safety comes first!
- Do not throw candy or other items from your entry. You may instead have someone walking the parade route and hand items to spectators.
- Doing burn-outs, wheelies or racing is strictly prohibited. We will not hesitate to report offenses to law enforcement officials who will be present along the parade route
- Within the week preceding the parade, all applicants will receive final parade marshaling (reporting) instructions and your parade registration/ID number.
- The parade route was modified in 2017 to enhance parking and viewing opportunities at school parking lots on Beach St. AND offer a second route for some parade units to leave town (down 8th St. to W. Fruitport Rd). A larger map can be found online here.
