Volunteers needed to support a last-minute effort to bring free COVID-19 testing to anyone who wants it. The event is this weekend and will be staged in downtown Muskegon Heights at the Farmer’s Market.
Testing will be done by the Michigan National Guard and is free to the resident. This opportunity was brought to our community by the Michigan Department of Veterans Affairs and is hosted by the City of Muskegon Heights.
Volunteers are needed for the following opportunities: traffic control and paperwork assistant
Traffic Control: 6 traffic control volunteers will be stationed along to drive up paths to support the flow of traffic and provide direction to residents as they drive up for testing.
Paperwork Assistant: 6 individuals are needed to assist residents with filling out paperwork required to properly document the materials for testing and to ensure the speed and accuracy of the effort.
Recognizing that this is a last-minute ask on a holiday weekend, but knowing the importance of this effort and the opportunity to provide the service to our community for free, United Way of the Lakeshore is offering a $25 gift card for anyone who signs up to complete a shift. In addition, volunteers will be able to take advantage of the opportunity to get a free COVID test.
Shifts are:
Saturday 9:00 am – 2pm
Saturday 2pm – 5:30pm (assuming cleanup)
Sunday 8:00am – 12:30pm
Sunday 12:30pm – 5:30pm (assuming cleanup)
Volunteers park at Heights police lot (or nearby), check in with Phyllis Watson, 616.828.6750, and go to their stations.
Volunteers provide their own PPE. We will have disposable and or cloth masks for those who need them. Water and hand sanitizer will be on hand as well as snacks for volunteers.
