Who We Are

Mission: To inspire and enable all youth, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as productive and caring citizens.

Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore, with the assistance of the Boys and Girls Club of America, implements many tried and proven programs to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential, as productive, caring and responsible citizens. The emphasis of each program is to make learning fun, assist youth with homework or studying, empowering youth to envision their future, and motivating youth to obtain their High School Diploma or GED. We offer daily access to a broad range of programs in five core program areas. BGCML is now serving 460 kids a day in the summer, and an average of 132 a day during the school year. In 2018, BGCML served over 50,000 meals and snacks to these youth. The organization is looking forward to continued sustainability and growth, providing a network of Club sites right in the neighborhoods of the youth who need us most.

What We Do

Boys & Girls Club of the Muskegon Lakeshore, with the assistance of the Boys and Girls Club of America, implements many tried and proven programs to enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential, as productive, caring and responsible citizens. The emphasis of each program is to make learning fun, assist youth with homework or studying, empowering youth to envision their future, and motivating youth to obtain their High School Diploma or GED. We offer daily access to a broad range of programs in five core program areas. These core programs include:

  1. Character and Leadership Development– We empower young people to support and influence their community, sustain meaningful relationships, develop a positive self-image, participate in the democratic process, and respect their own and others cultural identities.
  2. Education and Career Development– We enable young people to become proficient in basic educational disciplines, apply learning to everyday situations, and embrace technology to optimize employability.
  3. Health and Life skills– We develop young people’s capacity to engage in positive behaviors that nurture their own well-being, set personal goals, and develop the skills to live successfully as self-sufficient, contributing adults.
  4. The Arts and Music– We enable young people to develop their creativity and cultural awareness through knowledge and appreciation of visual, tactile, and/or performing arts and music.
  5. Sports, Fitness, and Recreation- We develop fitness, positive use of leisure time, skills for stress management, appreciation for the environment, and social and interpersonal skills.
