Volunteers needed to lead student groups during field trips to the Muskegon Lake Nature Preserve in North Muskegon.
When? Attend one 3 hour training day in Early April and sign up for at least 3 weekdays in April or May to lead groups (dates dependent on scheduled field trips on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays)
What? Muskegon Environmental Research and Education Society (MERES) are the creators and caretakers of the MLNP and have an education coordinator who will be leading school groups at the preserve in the months of April and May. We are looking for volunteers who would enjoy working outside with groups of students for 3+ hours at a time. All materials and supplies will be provided as well as a detailed lesson plan which will be handed out and explained at the volunteer training day.
Why? This opportunity would allow you to engage local students in learning about our natural world. Children lack opportunities, more than any other time in our history, to explore nature. Outdoor experiences provide youth a sense of place in their surrounding environment, can have lasting effects physically, socially, and emotionally, and allows them first hand experiences to develop values and opinions of the natural world.
